Our Students

Ss Peter & Paul's Catholic Primary School  Doncaster East

At Ss Peter & Paul’s we embrace an ongoing commitment to support rich, deep and varied learning experiences for all our students, so that they may develop as optimistic, resilient young people, contributing to and enriching the world around them. We know that Wellbeing is integral to learning excellence,  good health and life success.

At Ss Peter & Paul’s  we provide a safe, nurturing and dynamic learning community that acknowledges and celebrates the uniqueness of each child. We believe that in order for students to learn to their full potential they need to feel safe, valued and respected in their learning environment and community. We have a Student Wellbeing Leader who works with staff, parents and students to promote effective whole-school wellbeing and family engagement practices.

All students benefit from:

  • The explicit teaching and learning of social-emotional skills;

  • A Restorative Practice approach to restoring all relationships when a conflict arises;

  • Explicit teaching of being safe, responsible and respectful in the online world

  • Understanding of gender equality through our Respectful Relationships program;

  • Being safe through our Child Safety standards;

  • Having a voice in all that is important to them through Student leadership opportunities across the levels

Social Emotional Learning

Social and emotional learning is about learning how to manage feelings, manage friendships and solve problems. These are essential life skills that support wellbeing and positive mental health. Social and emotional skills promote children’s ability to cope with difficulties and help to prevent mental health problems. Children who have developed social and emotional skills find it easier to manage themselves, relate to others, resolve conflict, and feel positive about themselves and the world around them.

At Ss Peter & Paul’s we implement a range of social emotional programs and initiatives to support the wellbeing of our students. These include:

Respectful Relationships program

  • Bluearth

  • Circle Time

  • Mindfulness

  • Buddy Programs

  • eSmart Programs

  • Cybersafety

  • Lunchtime activities

  • Student Leadership Programs

  • Social Justice initiatives - Mini Vinnies

Buddies

To support the Preps in their first year at school, they are paired with a Year 6 buddy. The Year 6s support their buddy on the playground during the first few weeks at school, helping them to find their way around the school. The buddies continue to work on special activities throughout the year and develop a very special bond.
